Silje Nygård

Urban Culture Editor

Culinary journalist with 9 years covering Norwegian food culture. She knows where the chefs eat after their shifts, not where the tourist board sends you.

About Silje

I have spent nine years writing about food in Trondheim, which is, contrary to what Oslo journalists believe, one of the best food cities in Norway. The fish market at Ravnkloa. The Bakklandet cafes that have been there since before Instagram. The brewing culture that has nothing to do with the craft beer trend.

At NorgeTravel, I write for the traveller who is tired of the same ten Instagram locations and wants to understand what a Norwegian city actually feels like at 8 AM on a Tuesday in October. That is when the real city is happening.

I will tell you to skip the tourist-facing restaurants at Bryggen in Bergen. I will also tell you exactly where to go instead, down to the specific table I prefer when it rains. In Bergen, that is most days.
