About Marte

I grew up in Lom with Jotunheimen as my backyard. As a child, Galdhøpiggen was just the mountain we see from the window. As a guide, it is the summit where I have learned the most about weather, human limits, and the importance of turning back in time.

After 18 years as a DNT-certified mountain guide, I write for NorgeTravel because too many travellers arrive at the peaks unprepared. They have seen the picture on Instagram, but not read about the 1,100 metres of elevation gain or what a DNT Red grade actually means.

My guides are not written to impress. They are written to send you home again.

My favourite cabin is Memurubu. It is not the highest, not the hardest to reach. But the kitchen smells of reindeer stew and there is a fire pit outside with a view across Gjende. That is enough for me.
